Facundo Pellistri has left Manchester United after signing for Panathinaikos on a permanent transfer.

The news has been confirmed by Manchester United’s official website.

Reports gathered pace that Pellistri would depart Old Trafford this week and the next chapter of his career is set to take place in the Greek Super League.

According to The Athletic, Panathinaikos have agreed to pay a €6million (£5.1m) fee with up to €2m in add-ons based on his future performance.

The Greek Cup holders are coached by Diego Alonso, who had a big influence on signing his fellow countryman after selecting the right-winger at the 2022 World Cup finals when he was in charge of Uruguay.

Pellistri featured at the 2024 Copa America, representing Uruguay, earlier this summer.

Alonso also handed Pellistri his international debut against Paraguay, earlier that year.

Pellistri joined United from Penarol in 2020 on the back of a recommendation from former Uruguay star Diego Forlan. He had two loan spells in La Liga with Alaves before returning to Spain for a short loan at Granada last term.
