Scott McTominay is in demand this summer with Fulham, Galatasaray and Napoli all interested in his signature.

Manchester United will be rubbing their hands together at the thought of a transfer race. The Reds are expected to try play the three clubs off against each other to get the best price.

Napoli’s sporting director has already expressed how much he rates the United and Scotland midfielder, but he explained that the Serie A outfit have their hands tied behind their backs until star striker Victor Osimhen is sold hence why it is worth checking the latest markets from trusted betting sites as the new season gets underway.

Giovanni Manna said: “McTominay and [Billy] Gilmour are very good players… but they’re not out players so, no comment. Full focus on the game and then we will focus again on transfers.”

The director added: “It’s an objective fact, what the coach said, the situation is blocked. Victor is an important player, with an important value and conditions. His desire is clear. We tried to maintain the integrity of the squad at this moment. We are not the only club in this situation and we’ll see what happens over the next 10 days. At this time, it is not right to say what sensations there are. We are working with his entourage to find the best solution. As we said, he is an important player, so it’s not that we can just find him anywhere. He is under contract for another two seasons, so clearly if we don’t find a solution by August 30, we’ll have to talk to the player.”

According to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport, Napoli have agreed personal terms with McTominay over a move to Naples. The report claims that the only hurdle preventing a deal from materialising is reaching an agreement with United over a transfer fee for the midfielder.

Fulham had looked destined to drop out of the race due to United’s valuation after having two bids turned down, but Marco Silva’s side returned to the table this weekend after being beaten by the Reds in their Premier League opening match. McTominay came off the bench against the Cottagers but could not make a goalscoring contribution.

Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth claims Fulham have reopened talks with United for McTominay. They are now expected to make a third and improved offer for his signature.

United can get FFP boost from McTominay

Selling McTominay would come with negatives and anyone who thinks otherwise is being naïve. He showed his importance to the squad last season with his substitute cameos, influential goals and versatility – but the positives of selling the academy graduate may outweigh the negatives.

It has been overlooked that McTominay’s potential sale will be ideal for United in their bid to abide by Financial Fair Play rules.

Since McTominay came through the academy at United, any sale for the Scotland international is considered to be ‘pure profit’ which certainly looks good on the spreadsheets.

Only time will tell if McTominay remains at United, but it may be better for his career to move on in terms of regular game time.
