Manchester United have 11 days to sign a new defensive midfielder and progress is being made in the pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

According to Manchester World, United have made progress in their attempts to sign Uruguay international Ugarte.

Due to uncertainty over Casemiro’s form, after last season’s exploits, United have been in the market for a new defensive midfielder and Ugarte is one many consider to be an upgrade over the Brazilian.

To Casemiro’s credit, however, the veteran started the season on a positive note during United’s 1-0 win over Fulham on Friday night.

United have already strengthened in other areas of the team including defence and attack.

The report states there is a belief within the club a midfield arrival can be sorted before the transfer deadline. A new left-back is also under consideration.

Ugarte has been United’s primary target for a new midfielder all summer.

Meanwhile, Scott McTominay is being linked with a move away from Old Trafford.
