Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has provided an update on Manchester United transfer target Sander Berge.
Manchester United have reportedly already proposed an offer to sign the Burnley midfielder, although it is understood that Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte is the club’s priority target for the midfield role that needs to be filled in Erik ten Hag’s side.
According to the Daily Mail, Burnley suggested that they would prize Berge out of a move by demanding £30m for his signature.
Berge, who emerged initially on United’s radar way back in 2019, is yet to play for Burnley this season but has now been subjected to another bid from a Premier League club.
A new report from Sky Sports claims Fulham have made a bid to Burnley for Berge worth around £20m plus add-ons.
The Cottagers are also said to be interested in signing United midfielder Scott McTominay, which tells you everything you need to know about how Marco Silva thought his midfield performed against United in their 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford on Friday night.
Fulham had two bids rejected for McTominay this summer. The latest was worth £20m.
The report also suggests United are keeping dialogue open with Burnley for Berge.
Is this a blow for United?
I wouldn’t consider it a blow because United would have Berge right now if they really wanted him.
Plus, if we changed our mind, the Reds would blow Fulham’s interest out of the water. It would be a no brainer for Berge, knowing United have had long-standing interest in him and a chance to join the bigger club in the world.
It’s clear that Ugarte is United’s priority.
However, it may be a blow if it means Fulham don’t have the money to reach the demands set for McTominay’s signature.
