Joshua Zirkzee joins trio in Manchester United history books after heroic debut

Joshua Zirkzee emerged as a hero in his Manchester United debut on Friday night by achieving something only three other Dutchmen have done at  the club.

Manchester United needed the Dutch striker to come off the bench to score the only goal in a 1-0 win over Fulham at Old Trafford. A heroic way to start the season and your chapter as a Red.

It was the new no.11 who secured three points when it looked like the game was going to end as a frustrating scoreless draw.

Zirkzee became the latest United player to score on his debut in the 1-0 win for United. He now joins the record books alongside club legend and assistant manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.

After scoring against Fulham on his debut, Zirkzee joins Van Nistelrooy, Alexander Buttner and Donny van de Beek as Dutch players to score for United on their Premier League debut.

He also became the 15th Dutchman to score on his Premier League debut, making him extra eager to go out and add to his tally against Brighton next Saturday at 12:30 pm.

While Buttner scored a screamer against Wigan on his debut, his United career didn’t amount to much and the same can be said for Van de Beek, who departed earlier this summer.

This should give Zirkzee the confidence to push on but he will be delighted with the instant impact he has made at United.
