Ally McCoist has given his verdict on where Manchester United will finish will finish this season in the Premier League, with the 2024/25 campaign kicking off tonight when Fulham visit Old Trafford.
The Reds are looking to improve on last season’s eighth place finish and Erik ten Hag will be hopeful that injuries don’t derail United’s hopes again.
The manager says United can compete on all fronts this season after making key additions to the squad over the summer. Four signings have been made and more are expected before the deadline. We’ve seen Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui all arrive and each player has the quality to improve their department within the squad.
United were able to secure Europa League football after an FA Cup final win over rivals Man City at Wembley in May, but the test this year is whether we can qualify for the Champions League.
Ahead of Ten Hag’s third season in charge, talkSPORT presenter Ally McCoist reveals that he expects United to finish in fourth place this season. The former Scotland international based his prediction on Chelsea’s unpredictability.
McCoist also insists that the upcoming campaign has to be a “massive season” for Marcus Rashford, who struggled in front of goal last term. The England international will aim to get back to his best after hitting the back of the net just seven times in 33 Premier League appearances.
“I have gone for Manchester United. I just don’t know what to expect from Chelsea,” McCoist said, as per talkSPORT.
“I don’t know what I am going to get from Chelsea. I think United will certainly be busy between now and the end of the month, bringing a couple in.
“I think they have got to get Luke Shaw fit, I think it’s a massive season for the likes of Rashford, [Rasmus] Hojlund will get fit, he will need somebody to help him.”
Two of the key players McCoist mentions are absent for the start of the season.
Luke Shaw has a fresh injury that Ten Hag claims will keep him out of action for the short-term future, while it will be another few weeks before we see Rasmus Hojlund on the pitch.
