Napoli in talks over potential deal for Manchester United midfielder

Napoli has emerged with interest in Scott McTominay late in the transfer window.

Reports in Italy suggested that Manchester United had rebuffed interest from the Naples-based club based on not having any interest in sending McTominay on loan.

According to The Times, Napoli have opened talks with United over a potential deal for McTominay, who was one of Erik ten Hag’s most influential players last term.

The report states that Napoli would prefer a loan deal for the 27-year-old because their transfer budget doesn’t stretch to United’s asking price of £25-30m.

It remains to be seen if United will be successful in their attempts to sign Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain, but I would rather keep McTominay as a squad member than Casemiro or Christian Eriksen.

That is why I think McTominay should be worth at least £35m in the current market.

Ten Hag recently stated that he would be happy to keep McTominay in his squad for the upcoming campaign.

“When you score ten goals in a season and perform very well for Scotland, then there will be an interest, but we want to keep him because he is a very important player for our squad,” Ten Hag said during the pre-season tour to the United States.

The Scotland international has already attracted two bids from Fulham this summer, although both were immediately rejected by United.
