Romano: ‘Keep an eye’ on 52-cap United ace’s situation, he could be sold before deadline day

Manchester United got their season underway yesterday with the Community Shield Final, and while it ultimately ended in defeat against Manchester City, there were plenty of positives to take from the tie.

The Reds conceded significantly fewer shots than Andre Onana had grown accustomed to across the course of 2023/2024, while numerous phases of link-up play looked particularly dangerous. The finishing, however, left a lot to be desired.

Surprisingly, one of United’s standout performers at Wembley was none other than maligned midfielder Casemiro, who fans expected to be sold in the earlier stages of the window.

It was clear last term that the Brazilian veteran was struggling to keep up with the pace of the English top flight, coming under fire on more than one occasion for being at fault for the side conceding.

Yet, he was back to his formidable best against the Sky Blues, and it’s left supporters optimistic that he can oversee a campaign akin to his maiden season in Manchester.

Casemiro tipped to see out another season in red

According to a fresh update from Fabrizio Romano, Casemiro is now set to stay at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future. In turn, he’s hinted that his counterpart Scott McTominay could be moved on in order to raise funds.

“There are no bids at the moment for Casemiro,” the transfer expert revealed. “[Erik] ten Hag confirmed he’s expecting him to stay, but keep an eye on Scott McTominay.

“Outgoings are needed to pursue the deal for Manuel Ugarte.”
