Romano: Bruno Fernandes set to sign three-year contract extension to become one of United’s highest-earners

After widespread speculation over his transfer status at the beginning of the summer window, Manchester United fans finally can breathe a sigh of relief over their captain’s future.

Per a fresh update from Fabrizio Romano, Bruno Fernandes will put pen to paper on a three-year contract extension – including the option of an additional season – before the window closes at the end of August.

The 29-year-old, who took the armband from Harry Maguire last year, is set to receive a lucrative pay increase that will see him become one of the club’s highest earners; currently, Casemiro ranks atop the wage list on a whopping £350,000 per week.

Contract extension will put an end to unwanted speculation

Fernandes had been linked with a host of clubs in recent months, primarily Saudi Pro League outfits and Inter Milan. However, he will now commit his future to Old Trafford, where he is largely viewed as the side’s most integral, influential and irreplaceable figure.

Since joining from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020, the midfield maestro has made 233 appearances in red, scoring 79 goals and assisting a further 66.
