Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Matthijs de Ligt after reaching an agreement with Bayern Munich for the centre-back.

The Netherlands international will move to Old Trafford in a deal worth €45 million, plus €5 million in add-ons, as per David Ornstein of The Athletic.

De Ligt must undergo a medical before he completes his eagerly awaited switch to United. He will sign a five-year deal that includes the option to extend by an additional 12 months.

The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to United ever since his time at Ajax when he played under Erik ten Hag. They’re set to reunite at Old Trafford following a successful spell together in Amsterdam.

In a separate deal, United have made progress in their pursuit to sign Bayern Munich right-back Noussair Mazraoui. A proposal of €15m plus €5m in bonuses has been accepted but it is contingent on fellow 26-year-old full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka leaving.

Ornstein adds that West Ham have agreed a £15m fee with United for Wan-Bissaka, while discussions continue over the length of the deal.

Wan-Bissaka, who is set to leave United after making 190 appearances for the club, is due to undergo his medical on Sunday or Monday.
