Confirmed Manchester United squad for Community Shield: Defender available despite doubts

Manchester United got the train to London on Friday ahead of today’s Community Shield against Man City at Wembley.

Harry Maguire is back amongst the squad which comes as a much-needed boost. The England international was left out of the squad for the 3-0 friendly defeat to Liverpool in South Carolina last Saturday as a precaution.

Erik ten Hag’s side suffered enough injuries during pre-season and the manager named several doubts heading in the Community Shield. He also stressed that he won’t risk players ahead of the Premier League season.

Victor Lindelof, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw were all absent when the United squad boarded their train at Stockport Station, as per the Manchester Evening News.

This means United are going to Wembley without a senior left-back and Harry Amass is likely to make his debut after starting all three of United’s pre-season tour games in the United States.

On a more positive note, Lisandro Martinez and Diogo Dalot have gone straight back into the squad after they returned from international duty.

Confirmed squad members: Onana, Bayindir, Heaton, Dalot, Maguire, Evans, Martinez, Amass, Casemiro, Mount, Collyer, Eriksen, McTominay, Mainoo, Fernandes, Rashford, Amad, Antony, Garnacho, Sancho, Pellistri, Zirkzee.
