Michael Carrick set to join Manchester United Legends for Old Trafford return

Former Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick will return to Old Trafford in September to take part in a charity match between Manchester United and Celtic Legends.

Fans will get another chance to watch the likes of Dimitar Berbatov, Antonio Valencia and Paul Scholes up close at the Theatre of Dreams.

Former club captain Carrick becomes the latest name to join manager Bryan Robson’s squad for the Legends match, which is being played in aid of Manchester United Foundation.

Carrick played for United between 2006-2018 and won five Premier League titles, one Cahmpions League, one FA Cup, three League Cups, and one Europa League.

Carrick’s United career came to an end at the culmination of his one and only season as club captain in 2017/18, having made 464 appearances and scored 24 goals for the Reds.

He has since turned to a career in management and he’s currently in charge of Championship outlet Middlesbrough.

United Legends take on their Celtic counterparts at Old Trafford on Saturday 7 September, with kick-off scheduled at 14:00 BST.

In May 2022, the legends match against Liverpool raised over £1.3 million to support the Foundation’s work with young people across Greater Manchester and beyond.
