‘Very ambitious’ – Ten Hag stresses Rashford is fully motivated for new season

Marcus Rashford will be aiming to get back to his best for Manchester United this season, after a disappointing 2023/24 campaign and missing out on a place in the England squad for Euro 2024.

Erik ten Hag says the misfiring forward is “very ambitious and motivated” to recover his best form for United. He scored just eight goals in 43 appearances last term.

Rashford was subject to lots of criticism but Ten Hag has always support his star forward, not forgetting that he scored 30 goals across all competitions during the Dutchman’s first season at United.

Due to his poor performances and lack of goal contributions last season, Rashford was linked with a move away from United this summer. That never materialised despite reported interest from long-term admirers Paris Saint-Germain.

Speaking ahead of the Community Shield against Man City on Saturday, Ten Hag said (via Yahoo): “We’ve all seen on the tour he’s very lively.

“He’s in very good shape already and we expect a lot, as we expect from the whole team a lot this season.

“There are so many suggestions around Manchester United and around this team. So we know the truth and he’s working very well, very hard, very engaged.

“And he’s very ambitious and motivated to make it a very good season.”

Ten Hag was asked about Rashford’s form last season and whether it cost him his place in England’s Euro 2024 squad.

“There are so many reasons, you can list them I think,” he added.

“There can be part individual reasons and definitely club, team and many reasons why a player is performing or not.”
