Microsoft is affixing its Copilot+ PC brand to the back of Manchester United kits for select matches.
While this news (via The Verge) won’t sit well with the traditionalists among our fanbase, it shows yet again how Manchester United can be a commercial juggernaut in the sporting world.
The arrangement is part of Qualcomm’s landmark jersey sponsorship where the Snapdragon brand features on the front of all the team’s kits.
Snapdragon produces the chips or processors found in an estimated three billion devices globally, as per The Athletic.
This means United will have a sponsor on the back of their shirts in competitive games for the first time in the club’s history this season, but this will not be the case for matches in the Premier League or the Europa League. There will, however, be an option in the domestic cup competitions, as well as in Women’s Super League games.
United’s three-year sponsorship with Snapdragon was agreed last September and their branding will feature on the front of the jerseys for the first time this season.
The club’s previous shirt sponsor, TeamViewer, featured on the kits for the last time last season.
Snapdragon interested in stadium naming rights?
ESPN previously suggested that Qualcomm were interested in acquiring the naming rights of a new stadium at Manchester United.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe took control of the club earlier this year and he has already made big changes at the club.
Recent reports claim that United are planning to keep Old Trafford, although with a reduced capacity to 30,000 seats.
