United set to be snubbed by ‘brilliant’ midfielder who’d compliment Mainoo tremendously

Despite adding the Euro 2024 star to their midfield shortlist in recent days, Manchester United are braced for disappointment in their pursuit of Martin Zubimendi.

As are Liverpool, judging by recent reports. Both Premier League rivals were prepared to go head-to-head for the 25-year-old talent, but after learning of their interest, he has instructed his agents to make it clear that he wants to stay at Real Sociedad this summer.

The ‘brilliant’ No.6 will enter the new season as a European champion after his triumph with Spain; he made four appearances at the tournament, including the final, during which he replaced Rodri at the interval and oversaw a spirited second-half display against England.

Such standout performances have seen Zubimendi become one of the most sought-after stars from Luis de la Fuente’s squad. Yet, his stance remains the same as it did when the summer window opened: staying at San Sebastian for the foreseeable future.
