Premier League club have just met the asking price of ‘complete midfielder’ United are in talks for

Much of Manchester United’s transfer speculation this week has been focused almost primarily on midfield targets.

It’s for good reason, too, as you’d struggle to see how the side can compete at the top of the table next term in its current state; Casemiro, in particular, is proving to be a grave concern for supporters.

Nevertheless, INEOS have reportedly compiled a shortlist of numerous options, including the likes of Ederson, Sander Berge and Youssouf Fofana – the latter of which had been expected to complete a move to AC Milan until United revived their interest this week.

They’re looking to capitalise on the fact that there is still no agreement in place between the Serie A outfit and AS Monaco despite weeks of negotiations.

Premier League club unexpectedly enter Fofana race

However, there may be one more twist in the tale of what Fofana likely thought would be a relatively straightforward summer window; according to L’Equipe, West Ham United have tabled a proposal which meets Monaco’s asking price of £30 million.

The Reds are yet to bid, while Milan have presented a considerably less appealing offer of £14m, which has been rejected.

It remains to be seen if the France international – deemed a ‘complete midfielder’ by Statman Dave – would opt for a transfer to the Irons after waiting so long for Milan to meet Monaco’s demands. Given that he is now in the final year of his contract, you can understand why potential suitors are unwilling to match such a price.
