Manchester United remain interested in striker with 36 goals in the Premier League

Manchester United have struggled to sell players this summer, so it remains to be seen if we can sign the players needed to strengthen multiple area of the team ahead of the new season.

The Reds got off to a flying start in the summer transfer window off with two arrivals announced early on. Joshua Zirkzee joined from Bologna before Leny Yoro signed after two years in the Lille first team.

Unfortunately, Yoro has been ruled out for three months with an injury he sustained during pre-season. This means United will need to buy another centre-back and that may restrict spending elsewhere as United reconsider their approach for a new midfielder.

A second player suffered an injury during pre-season to make matters worse for Erik ten Hag. The manager will be without Rasmus Hojlund for the start of the new season due to a hamstring injury.

So, while there is a need for another striker in the squad, I have serious questions over whether PSR will restrict us in this transfer window.

According to Forbes, United are remaining hopeful they will be able to sign Ivan Toney this summer.

The report suggests United are hopeful of securing another striker this summer and the England international is towards the top of their list of targets.

While United ‘remain interested’ in Toney it remains to be be seen whether they will be willing to match the price tag of £40m for the forward.

Brentford have lowered their asking price for Toney on multiple occasions this summer. United may act if they do so again.

Although Toney missed a lot of football after a betting ban, the Englishman has scored 36 goals in three Premier League seasons, as per WhoScored.

United told to avoid Toney

Former Liverpool star John Barnes has urged United not to bid for Toney because he doesn’t think the striker is the answer to our problems.

Speaking to bonuscodesbets, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News, Barnes said: “I don’t think signing a striker is the solution to the issues at Manchester United. I think it’s more of an issue for Arsenal who need a presence in the penalty area in terms of the way they play. The problem with United is that Onana is overworked which is to do with their shape when they haven’t got the ball. Having the energy and the willingness to work back. I don’t think United need a striker. They’ve got Hojlund who is young and has shown some promise last season. Toney is a good player but he won’t solve their issues.”

Most of you are probably wondering what Barnes knows? I’d nod my hat and say ‘fair point’ to that.
