In the wake of Rasmus Hojlund’s hamstring injury, speculation has increased surrounding Ivan Toney moving to Manchester United.

The Telegraph ran a story last Thursday suggesting that United could do a U-turn on their supposed non-interest in the England international as they look to provide depth up front.

This comes despite United having agreed a deal to sign Chido Obi-Martin from under Arsenal’s nose after the 16-year-old snubbed a new deal with the Gunners.

It is important to note that signing Toney would compromise Inoes’ transfer plan which is to sign young players with a high ceiling to develop into world-beaters.

Stretty News understands that United have had several meetings with Toney’s representatives in the past yet, although it remains to be seen if the Reds will make a formal offer to sign the England international.

Brentford were willing to accept an offer of less than £50m for Toney to recoup some funds this summer. In fact, manager Thomas Frank spoke at the weekend about his talisman’s future and made an admission which opened the door to his departure.

“What I’m focusing on is that Ivan [Toney] is a Brentford player and I’m very happy that he’s here,” Frank told Sky Sports, as quoted by The Athletic. “If he’s here when we start the season, I would be over the moon. I’ve said before we’re a selling club but what I know is that Ivan is a player for us.”

It sounds like Frank is dropping hints to fans that they may be without their starman next season, but that depends on whether there is significant interest in his signature.

Toney wants a big move but Brentford have yet to receive an offer to make the striker’s dream a reality.
