‘How the boy feels’: Director alludes to reports of United target growing frustrated with lack of movement in deal

Manchester United are rumoured to be preparing an improved joint proposal for Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazaraoui.

Only last week did United see their opening bid rebuffed for the Bayern Munich duo, which is said to have prompted ‘bemusement’ in the players’ camps as they had been informed they were surplus to requirements heading into the summer window.

De Ligt, in particular, is said to be growing frustrated with Bayern’s firm transfer stance after they set his price tag at €50 million (£42.7m). He has ‘no intention’ of continuing at the Allianz Arena and has had his sights on a United move – and therefore a reunion with ex-Ajax manager Erik ten Hag – since June.

Personal terms are already in place between the Dutch international and the Reds, with him ready and waiting to put pen to paper on a five-year contract.

United accelerate centre-half search

Meanwhile, United were dealt a substantial injury blow last week after it was confirmed that Leny Yoro would be sidelined for three months with a metatarsal fracture. In turn, INEOS chiefs have ramped up their efforts to welcome a new centre-half to Old Trafford.

Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, has spoken openly on De Ligt’s uncertain situation, seemingly alluding to the player’s desires to complete a transfer before deadline day.

“I will comment on the reasons when the time comes,” Eberl told Sky Sports Germany. “It is not yet that time. Matthijs played very well here for two years, and that is why many fans like him.

“Nevertheless, you have to think about how you decide and also how the boy feels. He is still a player for FC Bayern. And as long as he is, he will get all the support from us.”
