Manchester United target makes transfer stance clear amid Atletico Madrid links

Feyenoord and Slovakia centre-back David Hancko has addressed his future amid links to with a move away from Eredivisie outfit Feyenoord.

Multiple reports state that Hancko is among Manchester United’s defensive targets since he can play on the left side of the defence. The Slovakian defender could be a useful option as cover for Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw since he can play at centre-back and left-back.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to Liverpool, and a reunion with former manager Arne Slot, while The Athletic claims United are considering a move, given his versatility across the back four.

In a recent interview, Hancko addressed speculation about having his head turned by Atletico Madrid after reportedly becoming one of Diego Simeone’s top transfer priorities this summer.

“Atletico Madrid? I didn’t like how the media said my head was turned because of the salary Atleti would have offered… that’s not true,” Hancko explained, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

“I already have a great contract here. For me, it’s not about the money. I definitely understand that Feyenoord is demanding more money from Atleti; this isn’t something in my hands, and I can’t do anything about that. It’s not a punishment if I stay at Feyenoord. I love this club.”

Hancko joined Feyenoord from Sparta Prague two years ago and has won the Eredivisie and Dutch Cup during his time in Rotterdam.

United have also been linked with moves for Matthijs de Ligt and Jarrad Branthwaite.
