Manchester United among Premier League clubs monitoring Real Madrid prodigy

Manchester United and Chelsea are being linked with a move for Real Madrid teenager Joan Martinez.

The 16-year-old Spanish defender has been tipped to reach the top after catching the attention of two Premier League clubs.

According to Fichajes, Manchester United and Chelsea are closely monitoring Martinez’s development.

Real Madrid kicked off their US pre-season tour with a 1-0 defeat against AC Milan. Martinez caught the eye after coming off the bench as Carlo Ancelotti named a team mixed with youth and experience.

The teenager is expected to feature in the remaining summer matches and he has already been singled out for praise by one his experienced team-mates.

Lucas Vazquez told Relevo: “I wasn’t where he is when I was 16. He’s an incredible kid and he played a very good game against Milan.

“He’s a centre-back with a brutal level of potential and we’re all going to try to help him as he continues to develop.”

This doesn’t sound like a player Real Madrid are willing to let go. Plus, he won’t want to leave when it sounds like he is bound to get opportunities at Los Blancos.

The European champions rate the player highly and it seems unlikely that they will let a prized young prospect like him move. Especially after missing the boat for Leny Yoro this summer.

The report claims Martinez dreams of emulating his idol Sergio Ramos and therefore he is likely to stay at Madrid.

Madrid take on Barcelona in a pre-season friendly this weekend.
