Former Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare has died at the age of 60 after a short battle with cancer. Among the tributes to flood in for him, Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has shared a message.
Maguire hailed his “incredible” former manager Craig Shakespeare after hearing about his death on Thursday.
Shakespeare confirmed he had cancer in October 2023 and had been undergoing treatment.
Tributes have poured in for Shakespeare since the news emerged.
Maguire, who played under Shakespeare, shared an emotional message on social media: “The man who signed me for Leicester, the man who gave me so much relief, the man I leant so much from. I will be forever grateful. Football will miss you, life will miss you.
“An incredible man. My thoughts are with all his family at this difficult time. RIP Shakey.”
Danny Drinkwater and Danny Simpson are other stars who played for United as well as Leicester City under Shakespeare.
“Absolutely gutted at the news,” Drinkwater said. “A needle in a haystack of the sport, one of the most genuine humans I have ever had the pleasure to work for and with! Gutted. Rip Shakes.”
Simpson wrote: “Gutted. Words can’t describe what this man did for me and my career at Leicester and beyond. I’m so thankful to have him in my life. He was an unbelievable coach but an even better human being. RIP Shakey.”
Shakespeare also worked for West Brom, Hull, Everton, Watford, Aston Villa and Norwich and had a spell as England assistant boss in 2016.
