Manchester United team news: Ten Hag forced to wait on fitness of duo ahead of Liverpool clash

Manchester United play their final game of the US tour against Liverpool in South Carolina this weekend.

The Reds will be without Rasmus Hojlund and Leny Yoro after the pair sustained injuries in the pre-season friendly defeat to Arsenal in Los Angeles.

Hojlund faces six weeks out, while Yoro’s recovery is expected to take three months.

United had more injury concerns following Wednesday’s 3-2 victory over Real Betis.

After scoring a first-half equaliser against the La Liga outfit, Rashford was forced off the pitch after 62 minutes. To make matters worse, Antony came off the bench before he sustained a separate knock meaning that Erik ten Hag had no other choice but to replace the Brazilian winger towards the end of the match.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the final pre-season match against Liverpool, Ten Hag said it was too early to say whether the pair would be available to play.

“We have to wait,” Ten Hag said, as quoted by ManUtd.com. “Of course, we don’t go into risk- to the last game of the tour, going into the season next week, into an important game [agains Man City].

“We are still within the 24 [hours] after a game. The final assessment we have to make and we will see if they are ready for the final game on Saturday against Liverpool.”

The manager was also quizzed on whether he would name his strongest line-up or rotate against the Scousers.

Ten Hag added: “Yes, it’s always about finding the right balance in this. We have to prepare for the season, but we understand that we have to give a performance and that we represent our club and that we represent Premier League football here. So [we have] to find the right balance in this.”

As we approach the game against Liverpool, United will want to avoid any further injuries. There is no point risking key player who are injury doubts for this one, even though it’s always great to beat the Scousers…

Beating Liverpool three games into the Premier League season is far more important than some pre-season friendly.
