Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag believes Liverpool are showing signs of early promise under new head coach Arne Slot, with the former Feyenoord boss having everything in place to hit the ground running in English football.
The Reds take on Liverpool in South Carolina this weekend. It will be Slot’s first time facing the biggest football club in England, but it’s also a teaser for what is to come as both teams meet at Old Trafford three weeks into the 2024/25 Premier League season.
Liverpool started their pre-season tour of the USA with wins over Real Betis and Arsenal, and face United next.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the match, Ten Hag backed fellow Dutchman Slot to build on what Jurgen Klopp achieved at Anfield (one Premier League title in nine years).
The manager said (via ManUtd.com): “I think he’s in quite a good place, because the structures are good, the players are good and Klopp football was of course very good and very successful.
“But I’m sure Arne with his skills that he can add to this. There will be elements of Klopp football but he will bring elements in and if they can bring this together they have a very good chance to stay very successful.”
It’s nice to see Ten Hag put pressure on Slot because the English media have been much kinder to him than they were to his compatriot.
I honestly wonder if Liverpool’s new manager agrees with Ten Hag’s view of the structure in place at Anfield. Or if he’s satisfied with the squad he inherited this summer.
