Manchester United accelerate search for new centre-back following injury blow

Following the devastating injury to Leny Yoro, Manchester United are expected to step up their search for a new centre-back ahead of the 2024/25 season.

The 18-year-old centre-back has been ruled out of action for three months after sustaining a foot injury in the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal last weekend.

Yoro’s injury setback has prompted speculation from newspapers in Spain, with suggestions that PSG feared he had an underlying metatarsal injury ahead of his transfer to United.

This means Erik ten Hag needs to intensify United’s search for a new centre-back which happens to be the case, as per The Telegraph.

United have been linked with moves for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt. It is thought that Yoro’s injury could lead to United stepping up their pursuit for one of those defenders – or perhaps an alternative.

I refuse to believe a deal to sign Branthwaite is out of the question. It’s just a matter of Everton lowering their ridiculous demands for a player who clearly wants out, having not played a minute of pre-season action this summer.

Another defender linked with a move to Old Trafford is Feyenoord’s left-sided defender David Hancko. The 26-year-old was part of the Slovakia team which nearly knocked England out of the last-16 of Euro 2024.
