United join ‘multiple’ PL clubs targeting rivals’ £25m versatile ‘monster’

Manchester United are rumoured to be among a handful of Premier League clubs looking to capitalise on Enzo Maresca’s ruthless Trevoh Chalobah omission.

Indeed, the new Chelsea boss’ decision to leave Chalobah out of his pre-season tour squad stunned the Stamford Bridge faithful, leading to intense speculation that the 25-year-old will leave his boyhood club before deadline day.

United, meanwhile, had already established their interest in the defender prior to his recent exile, although they’re yet to make any formal steps in acquiring his signature.

INEOS’ current priorities to bolster Erik ten Hag’s backline are Noussair Mazraoui, who is expected to join if Aaron Wan-Bissaka leaves, and Matthijs de Ligt. The Bayern Munich duo have given their green light to the prospective move, which would see them reunite with their former Ajax coach.

Yet, should the mooted transfers fall through, Chalobah, deemed a ‘monster’ by Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig, will presumably be next up on United’s shortlist. His versatility – being able to play both right-back and centrally – makes him an ideal candidate to reinforce the defence across the course of a campaign.

Transfer expert weighs in on United’s links to Chalobah

Ben Jacobs shared his understanding of the Reds’ interest, telling GiveMeSport: “Trevoh Chalobah is contracted to Chelsea until 2028, so he can be quite picky with his next club. He is naturally disappointed to have been excluded from Chelsea’s pre-season tour of America but won’t exit unless the club is right. He wants European football, or at worst, a club that he believes can get it consistently and soon.

“Multiple Premier League clubs have enquired, including Manchester United, but Chelsea don’t have any offers yet. Chelsea want a minimum of £25m and may even hold out for closer to £30m.”
