Former Manchester United star in talks to become Jamaica manager

Former Manchester United centre-back Steve Bruce is reportedly in talks to take his first international job.

Bruce, who has plenty of experience managing in the Premier League, could make a return to the dugout as manager of Jamaica.

According to the Daily Mail, Bruce has held talks with officials from Jamaica over taking up the role as head coach.

A decision is expected within the next 10 days and Bruce is a ‘serious contender’, sources have disclosed.

The Caribbean country is searching for Heimir Hallgrimsson’s replacement after the Icelandic coach resigned before taking the Republic of Ireland job.

Bruce has not held a role as manager since he was sacked by West Brom in October 2022.

He took charge of over 1,000 games at 11 different clubs but stepping onto the international stage would be a new challenge for the 63-year-old.

Teams managed by Steve Bruce

  • Sheffield United (1998-1999)
  • Huddersfield (1999-2000)
  • Wigan (2001)
  • Crystal Palace (2001)
  • Birmingham City (2001-2007)
  • Sunderland (2009-2011)
  • Hull City (2012-16)
  • Aston Villa (2016-2018)
  • Sheffield United (2019)
  • Newcastle (2019-2021)
  • West Brom (2022)

If Bruce takes the Jamaica job, he will save several Premier League stars at his disposal. They include Michail Antonio, Bobby De Cordova-Reid and Ethan Pinnock.
