Kleberson backs former team-mate to succeed at Manchester United

Manchester United made some key changes to their coaching staff this summer.

Earlier this month, it was confirmed that Rene Hake and Ruud van Nistelrooy had joined the club, as first-team assistant managers.

Jelle ten Rouwellar has also come on board as a goalkeeping coach.

There was another appointment last week when Andreas Georgson arrived from Norweigan side Lillestrom, where he has been head coach since January of this year. The Swede previously worked as a coach at Brentford, Arsenal and Southampton.

Former Manchester United midfielder and Brazil international Kleberson has high hopes for United’s new coaching set-up, especially Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Kleberson believes his former team-mate will be the key man for United this coming season.

The 2002 World Cup winner told DAZN: “My pick for key man won’t actually be the players but the staff and coaches. Ruud van Nistelrooy will be the key man for this season.

“He was an amazing player for United, was extremely hungry for success and now he’s on the other side, the players will be on the receiving end of something really powerful.

“That’s why I think the key for United will be him.”

When asked about United during pre-season and what the team needs, Kleberson added: “When I’ve been watching them in pre-season, there seems to be a huge improvement in the players from last year already.

“One position I do think they need strengthening in thought is the midfield. They need someone who can take control of the game – ideally a Paul Scholes type player.  But it’s hard to find players like that. You really need to produce them.

“A Paul Scholes player for me is what United really need, but I’m aware to find someone like that is not easy.”

Pre-season allows academy players to make an impression ahead of the new season. So far, this summer, I would say Harry Amass and Toby Collyer have looked like players that could push on over the next 12 months.
