Priority United target has just bid farewell to his club ahead of imminent transfer decision

One of Manchester United’s priority youth targets to add to the academy this summer has today announced his decision to leave his current club.

Indeed, Chido Obi-Martin has confirmed that he has left Arsenal with immediate effect.

The 16-year-old – widely regarded as one of the most exhilarating prospects in English football – took to Instagram this evening to bid farewell and express his gratitude to the Gunners.

Now, Chido Obi is expected to make an imminent decision on his future, having been heavily linked with a switch to one of Arsenal’s fiercest rivals: the Red Devils.

Why the Reds have set their sights on Chido Obi

It’s no wonder why United were so proactive in trying to prise him from the Emirates, either. The prolific forward, who made his first appearance for the under-21s at just 15, has scored a remarkable 24 goals in his previous seven matches for the under-18s.

In November 2023, he netted 10 times in one single match as the Arsenal under-16s thrashed Liverpool 14-3. Five months later, he proved unstoppable yet again when scoring seven of his side’s nine goals against Norwich City.

Nonetheless, it only takes one look at recent Old Trafford affairs to see why up-and-coming talents would jump at the chance of signing for the club; in May’s FA Cup final triumph over Manchester City, United’s only two goalscorers were Carrington graduates, both of which had broke through into the senior team in the past two seasons (Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo).

Homegrown talents Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford also started the tie, while Amad Diallo, Willy Kambwala and Jonny Evans were on the bench.
