Joshua Zirkzee comically admits he’s asked world-class ex-Bayern teammate to join him at Old Trafford

Manchester United’s first recruit of the summer window, Joshua Zirkzee, reported to Carrington on Monday to begin his preparations for his debut season.

As it stands, fans are anticipating that the forward may be called upon at the earliest opportunity: the Community Shield against Manchester City on August 10.

This is because his counterpart, Rasmus Hojlund, was withdrawn early with an apparent hamstring injury during United’s pre-season defeat to Arsenal on Saturday. Prior to his substitution, the Dane had scored the only goal of the game.

The severity of Hojlund’s issue is yet to be confirmed by the club, so until then, it remains to be seen which centre-forward Erik ten Hag will field for the side’s first competitive test of the term.

Nevertheless, Zirkzee kindly took the time to greet fans outside the training complex today, having just returned from his summer holidays; he was granted a longer break due to his participation in Euro 2024, as is the case with other Reds who were on international duty.

One young supporter asked the 23-year-old: “Can you tell [Jamal] Musiala to join United?” – to which he replied: “I’ve tried. I’ve tried.”
