A deal that would take David de Gea to Serie A outfit Genoa has reportedly collapsed.
That is according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, who says Genoa’s deal to sign De Gea is off – for now.
De Gea’s ‘unrealistic’ salary expectations have proven to be the biggest hurdle for Genoa, and it may explain why the former Manchester United goalkeeper has been a free agent for the past year.
Told a deal to take David de Gea to Genoa is off – for now. It’s thought unrealistic salary expectations means Genoa are now unlikely to pursue a deal. Genoa will focus on alternative targets. #Genoa #DeGea

Sheth adds that Genoa will now focus on alternative targets as they search for a new goalkeeper. The Italian side are looking for a new shot stopper after Joseph Martinez joined Inter Milan.
Blow for De Gea
The 33-year-old Spaniard has been without a club since he left Old Trafford at the end of 2022/23 when he contract expired. His last competitive game came in the 2023 FA Cup final defeat against Man City.
De Gea has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia as well as the MLS.
The Athletic ran a report last night that De Gea was in talks with Genoa over a possible move to Serie A.
De Gea won five major trophies during his 12-year stint at Old Trafford, so he still has a lot to offer, including a wealth of experience.
We hope a move materialises for De Gea this summer.
