United enter advanced talks over deal for ‘phenomenal’ young midfielder who is keen to make up for lost time

Manchester United are poised to add one more player to their outgoings list after already sanctioning the exits of Alvaro Fernandez, Donny van de Beek, Willy Kambwala and Mason Greenwood.

This time around, it’s another Carrington graduate who’s set to complete a permanent move away after a tumultuous year at club level.

Hannibal Mejbri, 21, endured a peculiar loan spell with Sevilla last term – one that ultimately ended up benefitting no parties involved. He departed Manchester in January in hopes of acquiring more game time, having made only 10 appearances across the first half of the campaign under Erik ten Hag.

After rebuffing interest from Everton, the midfielder landed in Seville to spend the remainder of the season with the La Liga outfit

Yet, in the 20 matches Sevilla played since Hannibal signed, he proceeded to feature in only six of them – all of which came in the league. He made just one sole start and a further five appearances off the bench, totalling a mere 101 minutes on the pitch.

His longest cameo was 53 minutes long and came in a win over Real Sociedad on March 2, after which the Tunisian was granted only two more chances to showcase his talents; a six-minute appearance against Granada on May 5 and five minutes against Athletic Club on May 19.

Having since returned to Manchester no better off than when he left, Hannibal is aware that he has little to no chance of playing an integral role in the first-team next season and, as such, is seeking a move away.

Hannibal has the pick of two suitors this summer

Africafoot claims the player has been targeted by both FC Copenhagen and Rangers recently, the latter of which established their interest after watching him in action during last Saturday’s pre-season friendly.

An Ibrox switch is preferred by Hannibal, who was described as a ‘phenomenal’ talent by former Birmingham City boss John Eustace during his loan 2022/2023 spell.

It remains to be seen what kind of price United would demand for the young Red, but as he’s a homegrown product, any fee they recuperate will go down as a significant FFP profit and help balance the books.
