Manchester United striker completes loan switch to Wigan

Joe Hugill has joined Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan.

The striker, 20, was due to go on pre-season tour with the first-team but he remained in the UK to complete his switch to the League One side.

Hugill joins the Latics and will hope to gain more first-team experience over the course of the upcoming season.

The former Sunderland academy player spent the second half of last season at Burton Albion, so he has experienced football in League One already. This time around he will be aiming to score more goals.

Hugill scored in United’s second pre-season friendly of the summer against Rangers last weekend.

He spoke to Wigan’s club media about the move, saying: “I am very delighted to be here. It’s been a long time coming, but I am over the moon to get it done, and can’t wait to get started.

“To get the number nine shirt is a massive honour, and I will wear it with pride. Hopefully, I can show what I can do with it.”

Hugill sounds excited to get started at Wigan and we wish him the best of luck next season.

The aim will be further his development and return to United as a better player.
