Joao Neves setback could boost Manchester United’s pursuit of PSG midfielder

Manchester United have been linked with Portuguese midfielder Joao Neves since the beginning of the summer.

It’s important to note that the interest wasn’t persistent enough for us to believe that the Benfica star was a primary target on United’s list of midfielders.

We have since learned that Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte is the midfield option being prioritised by United, but an agreement has yet to be reached with the Ligue 1 champions. It is understood that the Uruguayan has verbally agreed to join United this summer.

However, it seems Neves is deep in talks with PSG, who look set to spend big for the Benfica starlet.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims that a fee of around €70m plus a player is to be agreed for the 19-year-old, who featured for Portugal at the European Championship earlier this summer.

Bayern Munich’s Renato Sanches could move the other way and join Benfica.

An announcement is expected soon.
