INEOS establish interest in a familiar face after shortlisting player they signed in 2021 to bolster depleted position

INEOS chiefs are poised to take a page out of Erik ten Hag’s book by signing a player they’re already well-accustomed with.

Following a season in which the entire squad – particularly the backline – was plagued by an unprecedented injury crisis, it’s safe to say reinforcements are necessary to ensure it cannot happen again.

As such, Manchester United have already welcomed a striker, Joshua Zirkzee, and a centre-half, Leny Yoro, to bolster the manager’s options ahead of the 2024/2025 term kicking off next month.

While transfer figures actively scour the market for a new midfield addition, one position has also caught their eye following this week’s developments – Tyrell Malacia was ruled out of the club’s pre-season tour of the United States to continue rehabilitation from his knee injury, which saw him miss the entirety of last season, at Carrington.

Additionally, Luke Shaw is absent due to his involvement at Euro 2024 with England, having reached – and started – the final before falling to a gutting 2-1 defeat to Spain.

The left-back duo’s prolonged absences at club level led to Diogo Dalot, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof and even Sofyan Amrabat deputising in the position last term, highlighting just how invaluable depth can be when navigating a jam-packed schedule.

INEOS add a familiar face to left-back shortlist

Now, HITC claims that Gent defender Archie Brown has been shortlisted by United as they mull over a potential move. The 22-year-old was signed by INEOS in 2021 when he made the switch to Swiss outfit FC Lausanne, with his tremendous efforts seeing him quickly seal a transfer to the Belgian division.

His progress has been monitored in recent months – but not only by United. The report adds that Chelsea have also been scouting Brown this summer, and we’re all well aware that Todd Boehly isn’t shy when it comes to opening his chequebook.

  1. Man united need a good centre back and they will be difficult to score against. They need Deligt with his experience and the team will be strong. The midfield will be solid if Rabiot and Amrabat can be used without spending a huge amount of money. We will even win the premier league and not only make the fourth position. But if the money can be raised to buy expensive players we should do so. I don’t think it’s the expensive player who can win games for the team but the experienced and committed player.
