‘I’m part of the future’: Much-maligned United man relays the messages he’s been told by INEOS

Amidst another summer of speculation and uncertainty surrounding his Old Trafford future, Harry Maguire has spoken out to affirm his commitment to the club.

The Manchester United star endured a tough year throughout Erik ten Hag’s maiden campaign in the dugout, having seen his game time slashed significantly upon the arrival of Lisandro Martinez and the subsequent formidable partnership he formed with Raphael Varane.

For comparison, Maguire made only eight Premier League starts in total across 2022/2023, yet made 10 more the following term despite suffering a handful of separate injury setbacks.

His resurgent form led to him earning widespread praise from fans and pundits, plenty of whom were willing to admit they’d been too harsh on the experienced defender due to his record-holding price tag.

What kind of role he’ll play in the squad following Leny Yoro’s arrival remains to be seen, but it has led to questions on whether he’d be better off pushing for a move elsewhere – especially if he wants to retain his place in the England squad under Gareth Southgate’s successor.

What Maguire has been told by United chiefs

Nevertheless, the 31-year-old has confirmed that he’s received assurances from United chiefs regarding his role this summer.

“Unless the club tell me I’m up for sale or that I’m not wanted there anymore then everything I’ve heard and the action that I’ve been shown by the club is that I’m part of the future,” Maguire told Sky Sports this week. “It’s time to crack on. Time to make this club successful again and challenge for the big trophies because that’s what it [United] demands.”
