Manchester United chiefs will be doing their utmost to ensure a catastrophic injury crisis akin to last season’s cannot happen again in 2024/2025.
As such, this summer poses the most first opportunity INEOS have had to bolster Erik ten Hag’s squad as they see fit.
They’ve already acted swiftly in getting two deals over the line in the form of Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro, the latter of which made his maiden outing for the club during last Saturday’s pre-season win over Rangers. However, the former will not be involved in the tour of the United States after he represented the Netherlands until the semi-final stage at Euro 2024 – albeit as an unused substitute for the majority of the tournament.
Nevertheless, the next position in pretty dire need of strengthening is left-back (again). Tyrell Malacia will spend the summer continuing his rehabilitation from the knee injury that kept him out of the entirety of last term, while Luke Shaw – undoubtedly one of United’s most injury-prone players – is resting from his Euros participation.
The duo’s prolonged absences have prompted reports that the club could target former Red Sergio Reguilon, who spent the first half of the 2023/2024 campaign on loan in Manchester before his break clause was activated in the winter and he returned to Tottenham Hotspur.

Reguilon, 27, proceeded to join Brentford until May and is now mulling over his options, given that he’s unlikely to play an integral role under Ange Postecoglou.
Fabrizio Romano has shared his understanding of United’s interest, telling fans on his YouTube channel: “Sergio Reguilon was very happy in Manchester.
“If Man United decided to return for Sergio Reguilon, he would be keen on a move. He loved his time at Man United; it was a short time, [but] he was very happy with the club, [and] with the tactical idea.”
