‘Improved offer’ imminent from PL outfit who’re hot in pursuit of Ten Hag favourite, says Sheth

Manchester United have rebuffed early interest in one of Erik ten Hag’s most trusted lieutenants since the window opened but may be inclined to change their stance before deadline day in order to sanction more arrivals.

Indeed, Scott McTominay is proving to be one of the Reds’ most sought-after players this summer, which comes as little surprise given the season he oversaw in 2023/2024.

The midfielder’s spirited shifts across the term led to him recording a career-best campaign, having notched 10 goals in all competitions. He played an integral role amidst a tumultuous season at Old Trafford and was always ready to make an impact when called upon, whether that was as a starter or a substitute.

Ten Hag’s plea to INEOS may fall on deaf ears if a suitable proposal arrives

Such efforts have made Ten Hag unwilling to part ways with McTominay, so much so that he publicly declared that he wants him to stay – while also confirming outside interest in the player.

“I think we have very good players, so they’ll always have an interest from other clubs,” the manager told reporters after last Saturday’s win over Rangers, as cited by Manchester World. “If you score 10 goals in a season and perform very well for Scotland, there will be an interest.

“We want to actually keep him [McTominay] because he’s a very important player for our squad. We’ve seen what he can contribute last season. When we had the sixes and he could play in a more advanced role. He’s a highly interesting player for our team.”

Ultimately, though, the Dutchman’s reduced authority in transfer dealings since INEOS took the reins means he’ll have little say on McTominay’s sale should senior chiefs decide to negotiate with a club.

In line with that, fellow Premier League outfit Fulham are now expected to make an ‘improved offer’ for the 27-year-old after failing in their opening attempt earlier in the summer, as per Dharmesh Sheth speaking on Sky Sports News yesterday.

The bid, which was swiftly rejected by United, was around £17 million. It remains to be seen what the Cottagers will return with.
