Manchester United winger agrees to sign new 3-year contract

Manchester United winger Sam Mather has agreed to sign a new long-term contract with the club.

The news broke exclusively this morning courtesy of Fabrizio Romano, and it is understood that Mather’s new deal will be valid until June 2027.

Mather has agreed to sign a three-year deal with an option for a further season.

There hasn’t been an official announcement from the club yet, but this isn’t the sort of news Romano would get wrong.

It means Mather’s foreseeable future is at Old Trafford.

Mather recently spent time with Rochdale on a flexi-loan. The flexi-loan system was introduced by United last season and it allows youngsters like Mather to gain senior experience whilst remaining involved in the day-to-day environment at Carrington.

He made 10 appearances after signing for Rochdale in January, scoring two goals for the Greater Manchester outfit.

For the academy, Mather started every game in the successful 2021/22 FA Youth Cup campaign along with Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

We are looking forward to seeing if Erik ten Hag gives Mather a first-team debut in the new season.
