Manchester United have completed the signing of Leny Yoro from Lille this summer.
The French defender became the club’s second signing after the arrival of Dutch attacker Joshua Zirkzee.
The Red Devils beat competition from Real Madrid, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain to sign the young defender.
He is considered the best young defensive prospect in the game right now and United have high hopes from him.
The young defender was involved in Man United’s 2-0 win against Rangers at the weekend and he impressed with his reading of the game and distribution of the ball.
Yoro has revealed which game convinced him to join Man United this summer over all other clubs.
He told MUTV:
‘When I saw the FA Cup win at the end of the season, for me, I really wanted to be with them because to win titles and celebrate with the fans – it’s incredible.’
Manchester City were clear favourites to win the FA Cup final, having won the Premier League title a week ago.
However, Man United displayed their best performance of the season in the game that mattered the most and beat their rivals 2-0, thanks to goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.
The Red Devils ended a disappointing season with silverware, which may have saved Erik ten Hag’s job at the club.
The new signing expressed his desire of playing in the Premier League as a big factor in choosing to sign for Man United.
‘Yeah, for me, this is the biggest championship in the world. For me, the Premier League… this is where the football fully exists.
‘So the fans, the level – because the level is crazy there, there is not an easy game – and, for me, the Premier League is the biggest in the world.’
Man United had a lot of defensive issues last season
United will now be hoping that the talented French defender can help the club solve their defensive issues next season.
The Red Devils struggled defensively last season with a number of players facing fitness problems and spending time away from the team.
The club have no intention to stop with the signings as Matthijs de Ligt and Manuel Ugarte are being targeted to join now.
