Glen Johnson encourages West Ham to sign Manchester United defender; now available for £10m

Glen Johnson claims that a move for Aaron Wan-Bissaka would be a “sensible deal” for his former club West Ham.

The Hammers have been linked with a summer move for Wan-Bissaka, who has just one year left on his contract at Manchester United, but nothing has been agreed yet.

Wan-Bissaka, 26, began his career with Crystal Palace and sources close to the player have stressed that his preference would be to return to London.

Former West Ham defender Johnson have given his verdict on Wan-Bissaka being an option for the Hammers in the transfer market.

“He’s probably one of the best defenders one-on-one, but he’s not on the ball, going forward or anything like that,” Johnson told Betfred Insights. “As a defender that could be solid for the Hammers, then he could be a good signing for around the £15 million mark and it would be a sensible deal for the club to make. If the deal edges closer to around £25 million, then I don’t think it would be a good deal.”

I would be surprised if anyone at United expects to receive a £25m bid for Wan-Bissaka.

According to German reporter Florian Plettenberg, United have ‘lowered’ their asking price for Wan-Bissaka to £10 million.

It was reported on Monday that both United and West Ham are ‘interested’ in Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui.

The ideal outcome would be Mazraoui to United and Wan-Bissaka to West Ham. Only time will tell.
