David de Gea hoping to end one-year spell as free agent next week

David de Gea has been without a club since he left Manchester United as a free agent last year.

The Spaniard could be on the verge of finding a new club ahead of the new season.

According to The Athletic, former United goalkeeper De Gea is hoping to have news on his future as soon as ‘next week’.

De Gea has been linked with moves to clubs in Saudi Arabia, the United States and Italy over the past year.

There was no shortage of speculation linking De Gea with a return to Spain too.

The report adds that an English club also ‘expressed interest’ in signing the shot-stopper, but De Gea does not want to return to England after spending the majority of his career at Old Trafford.

De Gea posted a cryptic message on X on Saturday afternoon that appears to suggest a deal has been agreed. He shared the hourglass emoji, which can be taken to assume that an announcement is coming.

Where next for De Gea?
