Manchester United are actively looking to make additions to the squad this summer.

They have already addressed their attacking and defensive issues with the signings of Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro respectively.

The Red Devils have now shifted their focus to signing a new midfielder and they are being linked with moves for PSG duo Manuel Ugarte and Xavi Simons.

After deciding to keep manager Erik ten Hag at the club, the officials at the club are working hard to bring new signings to Old Trafford and provide the manager all the resources he needs to perform well next season and challenge for trophies.

The club have identified Dutchman Xavi Simons as one of the targets for the summer transfer window.

Simons can play in a number of positions including the number 10 role and on both the flanks.

The Red Devils face competition from Bayern Munich and Barcelona to sign the Dutch international midfielder.

Man United assistant manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has praised Simons in the past for his mentality, having managed the player as the manager of PSV.

Speaking to Voetbal International in 2022, Van Nistelrooy said:

“His mentality, his mindset, it’s unprecedented. It’s a boy of only 19 years old, but Xavi is already much further advanced than his age.

Xavi Simons is being eyed by Man United this summer.

“But he really is a pure professional, a boy who is working towards a goal, who wants to get the most out of his qualities.

“He’s doing everything he can to get to the top, his top. And where that will be, that’s the beautiful challenge.

“That bit in him, wanting to do everything for that, I recognise that from myself as a player. I can only enjoy that.”

Xavi Simons would add a new dimension to Man United attack

Simons performed exceptionally well under the Man United assistant manager at PSV, scoring 20 goals and creating 12 in 46 games in all competitions.

He would be a breath of fresh air in the Man United attack if the Red Devils make a move for him.

His quality was evident when the Netherlands team faced England in the Euros and Simons scored the opening goal of the match.

He can add versatility, goal scoring and goal creation ability to the United attack and offer ten Hag a different option altogether.
