Ten Hag sends clear message to INEOS by declaring he doesn’t want trusty lieutenant to be sold despite ‘mounting interest’

Erik ten Hag has asserted his stance regarding sought-after midfielder Scott McTominay, who is said to be attracting ‘mounting interest’ this summer (MEN).

Indeed, the Manchester United star’s prolific efforts across 2023/2024 have caught the eye of numerous clubs in England and across Europe, including Fulham and Galatasaray – the former of which reportedly had a bid below £30 million recently rejected.

McTominay is on the back of a career-best goalscoring campaign, having netted 10 times in all competitions. He played a vital role, whether that be as a starter or for making an off-the-bench impact.

He was granted 43 appearances in total across the term, with 27 coming from the offset – which is perhaps slightly fewer than he’d have hoped for heading into the season.

On June 19, during a Euro 2024 group-stage clash, McTominay became the first Scotland player to score at a European Championship since 1966 when he opened the scoring against Switzerland in the 13th minute.

Ten Hag sends concrete message to interested clubs regarding McTominay’s availability

With the Carrington graduate having since returned to Manchester for pre-season, Ten Hag has openly declared that he wants to keep him at the club for the foreseeable future. McTominay’s contract is set to expire in 2025, but United have the option of activating a one-year extension.

“I think we have very good players, so they’ll always have an interest from other clubs,” the manager told reporters after Saturday’s win over Rangers, as cited by Manchester World. “If you score 10 goals in a season and perform very well for Scotland, there will be an interest.

“We want to actually keep him [McTominay] because he’s a very important player for our squad. We’ve seen what he can contribute last season. When we had the sixes and he could play in a more advanced role. He’s a highly interesting player for our team.”
