Leny Yoro explains Rio Ferdinand’s influence behind Manchester United transfer

Leny Yoro reveals the depths Rio Ferdinand went to convince the 18-year-old that Manchester United would be his perfect home.

United beat Real Madrid and Liverpool in the race to sign the centre-back, who looks set to partner Lisandro Martinez in the heart of defence next season.

It makes a positive change to United’s usual activity in the transfer market, which tends to be competent at best. The club has already added Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro to the squad with more acquisitions to follow.

With everyone reflecting on the news of Yoro’s arrival, former United defender Rio Ferdinand has been getting credit for helping complete the deal.

In a video with club media, Yoro said: “I had the chance to meet him and he’s a really nice guy, a top defender.

“I just called him but I hope to meet him soon. I already spoke with him and he’s a really nice guy.

“Not today, during the transfer market. He helped me a lot to make my choice. He explained to me how big United are. So yeah, it was really good for me.”

Yoro also revealed his favour French star to have played at Old Trafford.

He added: “Let’s say, Rapha Varane, he is a top defender. He didn’t play long time here but he’s an inspiration for me. A really top defender.”

Sadly for Yoro, he just missed out on playing with Varane. The experienced Frenchman left Old Trafford at the end of his contract this month.

The French kid has some big boots to fill.
