‘Rio-esque’ – Former Manchester United defender raves about Leny Yoro after first appearance

Leny Yoro made his first appearance in a Manchester United shirt as he featured in the pre-season clash against Rangers at Murrayfield.

The Reds beat Rangers to follow up their 1-0 defeat against Rosenborg on Monday.

Amad Diallo opened the scoring for United after a beautiful cut in from the right flank, before Joe Hugill doubled our lead in the second half.

Yoro, 18, was announced as a United player on Thursday but looked assured during his time (45 minutes) on the pitch. He has only had one day to train with his new team-mates but looked comfortable alongside Jonny Evans in defence.

Speaking to MUTV after the 2-0 win over Rangers, former United defender Danny Simpson raved about Yoro’s display (via ManUtd.com): “We could see this kid at centre-back for us for the next eight or 10 years. He looked Rio-esque. Comfortable on the ball, no stress. I thought for the first 45 minutes he was excellent. I’m looking forward to seeing more.”

I think United fans will be happy with the overall performance of the team, but it’s always a bonus when you see new signings appear to settle in quickly.

It’s just the start for Yoro and there’s a lot of hard work to come his way.
