Leny Yoro is a Red: Manchester United confirm second major signing of the summer

Manchester United have completed the signing of Lille defender Leny Yoro.

Leny Yoro’s transfer to Manchester United was confirmed this evening by Fabrizio Romano, however, we now have the official announcement on the deal from the club.

Fans on social media have anticipated the news throughout the day, but the wait is finally over.

Yoro has emerged as one of the brightest talents in Europe, and with just a year remaining on his Lille contract, United have struck a deal to sign him before Real Madrid. It’s a tremendous coup.

Thierry Henry, who gave Yoro his France U21 debut, raved about the young defender but warned that he will make mistakes in order to develop in his role.

The 18-year-old defender flew to Manchester on Wednesday and completed his medicals this afternoon before signing the dotted line.

Now, Yoro is a Red.

The deal is worth over £50m and he will sign a five-year deal with the option of a further year.

Yoro describes United transfer as “incredible honour”

Speaking about his transfer to United, Yoro said: “Signing for a club with the stature and ambition of Manchester United so early in my career is an incredible honour.

“Since my first conversations with the club, they set out a clear plan for how I can develop in Manchester as part of this exciting project, and showed a lot of care for me and my family.

“I know about the history of young players at Manchester United and feel it can be the perfect place to reach my potential and achieve my ambitions, together with my new team-mates. I cannot wait to get started.”

Dan Ashworth, Manchester United sporting director, added: “Leny is one of the most exciting young defenders in world football; he possesses every attribute needed to develop into a top-class centre-back. Having had such an excellent start to his career, we are excited to support him in reaching his immense potential here at Manchester United.

“This club has a fantastic record of developing young players, whether homegrown or brought in from elsewhere, and giving them the required guidance, time and patience to grow and flourish. Under Erik ten Hag and our excellent staff we will ensure that Leny has the perfect platform to achieve the success that everyone across the club is aiming for.”
