Erik ten Hag confirms star returns to training next week amid transfer interest

Scott McTominay is set to be the first Manchester United player to return to pre-season training having competed in the European Championship this summer.

Scotland missed out on a place in the knockout stages, meaning McTominay was sent home from Germany earlier than the other United players that were competing at Euro 2024.

Erik ten Hag has confirmed that McTominay will begin preparations for the new season next Wednesday.

The manager spoke to club media following Monday’s 1-0 defeat to Rosenborg.

“It starts on Wednesday with Scott returning,” Ten Hag said, as per ManUtd.com.

It means McTominay could be in line to get some minutes against Rangers at Murrayfield on Saturday, therefore, give Ten Hag more options to select from in these pre-season fixtures, after taking a vastly inexperienced side to Norway earlier this week.

There’s also good news in terms of Rasmus Hojlund and Christian Eriksen. Both will next to return after their Euro 2024 campaign with Denmark, which ended in the round of 16.

Ten Hag added: “Then, next week, Rasmus Hojlund and Christian Eriksen are returning, then they go on the tour.”

McTominay was an influential player off the bench for United next season, but with one year left on his deal (with the option to extend by a further year) we may have a decision to make if an appropriate offer comes in.

Fulham are reportedly keen and Galatasaray have confirmed their interest in the summer.

It remains to be seen if United will be tempted by any of their offers, but I highly doubt any Turkish club will be able to meet our valuation of McTominay.

Fulham weren’t the only Premier League club that showed interest in him last summer.
