Marseille advance with €31m deal to sign Mason Greenwood

Marseille are closing in on a deal to sign Mason Greenwood from Manchester United, after reaching an agreement in principle with the player.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Marseille have reached an agreement in principle with Greenwood to sign the forward, who spent last season on loan at Getafe.

It is understood that Marseille had a deal in place with united, which was subject to Greenwood’s approval with work continuing in an effort to finalise the move.

The sooner United get rid of Greenwood the better because we could do with the money to spend on new recruits, and we already know he’s not part of the club’s long-term plans.

Greenwood has yet to travel to France or undergo a medical, which he must complete before putting pen to paper on a deal at the Ligue 1 club.

Ornstein claims the deal is worth €31.6m (£26.7m), comprising €26.6m (£23.3m) fixed and €4m (£3.4m) in add-ons, plus a large share of any future sale.

That’s a good deal as far as we’re concerned.

Greenwood was told at Carrington last week that he had no future at Old Trafford. That wouldn’t have come as a surprise to him.
