Luckhurst: United are ‘trying hard to sell’ £120k p/w star before his contract expires in 2025

Manchester United are ‘trying hard to sell’ Victor Lindelof in what they believe is the last opportunity they’ll have to generate a respectable fee from his exit, according to Manchester Evening News.

The centre-half, who turns 30 on Wednesday, is now in the final 12 months of his contract after United opted to activate his one-year extension last December.

As such, transfer chiefs are well aware that any interested clubs would be unwilling to spend big in the winter window, giving United from now until the September deadline to recuperate the price tag they desire.

Lindelof takes home a reported £120,000 per week and has done so since he penned a new five-year deal in 2019. He played an integral role under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but has featured sporadically since Erik ten Hag’s reign began due to the formidable partnership between Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane.

He saw his 2023/2024 campaign plagued by two lengthy injury layoffs, being limited to just 28 appearances in all competitions as a result.

United must accelerate centre-half pursuit

Should the Swede’s departure materialise, it’ll leave the manager short on centre-back options heading into the pre-season tour – Jonny Evans agreed to extend his Old Trafford stay for another season last Friday. However, Raphael Varane officially left as a free agent last month, and Willy Kambwala is closing in on a move to Villarreal, having completed his medical today.
